Stay Competitive with New Flexo Folder-Gluer and Feeder
March 1, 2009 By: Packaging online staffThe new Flexo Folder Gluer EMBA 245 QS Ultima™ is the first converting machine to integrate EMBA’s patented true Non-Crush Converting™ technology preserving the geometry and strength of the corrugated profile for optimum box performance and material cost savings. It features the Ultima Feeder™ and vacuum transport throughout the complete machine.

The Ultima Feeder™ replaces the traditional feed rollers with an innovative all-servo five axis feed table with a controlled system for feed wheels as well as patented relief bars technology ensuring high-speed performance with enhanced feeding register accuracy. One of the greatest benefits of this machine concerns the box strength properties with preserved ECT/BCT/FCT values during the converting process.
With the Ultima Feeder, it is not necessary any longer to increase ECT level by 15 percent on incoming corrugated sheets as usually done with a conventional feeder due to the crushing of the fluting when passing the feed rollers. The feeder converts incoming corrugated sheets with exact ECT levels requested, reducing the amount of paper necessary to achieve specified box strength. The corrugated board converter can optimize material strength leading to right-size packages and therefore reduce paper consumption by 15 percent or even allow the change to other paper qualities with higher recycled contents for similar box strength properties.
It can feed all types of corrugated sheets. Increased feed accuracy will also impact positively other converting stages with precision of printing, slotting, diecutting as well as folding.
Short Setup Times and Quicker Production Speeds

The machine is designed to achieve highest production output combined with the shortest set-up time. With it's advanced digital communication and user-friendly operator interface, the highly automated and servo controlled EMBA 245 QS Ultima is ideal for short order sizes required by just-in-time demands and can be easily set for 50 or more separate orders during a single eight-hour shift.
As one of the most technically advanced machine platforms on the market, the EMBA 245 QS Ultima, with it’s vacuum transport system through the entire converting stages, provides high productivity performance with converting speeds up to five sheets per second.
Improved Operator Safety and Reduced Operating Costs
The elimination of the feed roller inlet nip point also marks a major safety improvement compared to traditional feeders with feed rolls representing a risk for operator’s safety. Its advanced servo motor technology, reduces paper consumptions thanks to it’s Non-Crush Converting™ technology, minimizes ink loss, water consumption and reduces energy cost, all vital factors for enhanced competitiveness.
It has the ability to meet the stringent demands concerning operational excellence, product quality, environmental sustainability and improved operator safety.
