Rock-Tenn Buys Southern Container
NORCROSS, GA. — Rock-Tenn Co. has purchased Southern Container Corp. (SCC), a privately held containerboard producer and box maker, for
$851 million in cash. The deal should close in late March. SCC operates the 720,000 ton per year Solvay mill, located near
Syracuse, N.Y. It is one of the lowest cost recycled containerboard mills in North America. The company also operates eight
integrated corrugated box plants, two sheet plants, and four high-impact graphics facilities, making it the largest preprinted
linerboard manufacturer in North America.
