The Corrugated Board Technical Service Committee (CORBOTEC) is holding its Annual Summer Meeting, June 17-20 at the Marriott
Hotel in Mystic, Conn.
The CORBOTEC of TAPPI's Corrugated Packaging Division provides technical assistance to mills, container plants, and box customers
in resolving board and container problems by promoting information exchange and communication between all elements of the
process and distribution cycle.
The agenda includes:
Tuesday, June 17: 1 to 5 p.m. TAPPI business review Wednesday, June 18: All-day tours of Smurfit-Stone Container Corp.'s Uncasville recycled medium mill and Rand Whitney's recycled liner Montville
mill
Thursday, June 19: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Presentations, technical discussions and blue card answering. Blue cards are questions that are sent in
by people with problems or issues that they are facing in their plants). Presentations include:
- Update on Wal-Mart and corrugated packaging by Robb Clarke of Michigan State University
- ECT modeling study by Thomas Urbanik of US Forest Products Lab
- Creep in corrugated packaging by Doug Coffin of University of Miami, Ohio
- Printing seminar by Dave Vollick of SSCC
- LoadXpert technology by Pierre Lavoie of LoadXpert
- Enviropac loading by Eric Yergeau of Cascades
A group social follows the day's business meetings at approximately 6 p.m.
The Marriott Hotel is located along the coastal area of Mystic, Conn. Rooms are in high demand. The hotel is offering the
rate of $159 per night (versus corporate rate of $239). This rate is good for Tuesday through Friday of the meeting, as well
as three days prior and three days after, as long as space is available.
