EskoArtwork introduces Dynamic Content, a next step in its successful series of design application plug-ins. The new software dynamically links text content with any Adobe® Illustrator® artwork file.

Dynamic Content effectively separates the package’s textual content from its layout. Its power lies in its ability to create a text link in an Adobe Illustrator file directly to an XML file created by the brand owner. A single, XML-based text can be shared across a range of designs, or alternatively multiple text sources (for different language versions, for example) can be linked to a single design. Designers can collect static text from legacy designs and bring them into a dynamically managed content workflow. They can build dynamic templates for products within the same brand umbrella. In addition, by eliminating the process of cutting and pasting “revised text,” there is a significant reduction of errors, cost, and lead times.

KlaFold®, a coated unbleached kraft paperboard manufactured by Klabin, Brazil’s largest paperboard producer, is now available from MeadWestvaco as part of a recent sales and marketing agreement. With its three-ply structure, KlaFold paperboard delivers on strength, printability and converting performance, while requiring less fiber than competitive boards. KlaFold is particularly well-suited for lightweight packaging applications. With its innovative structure, KlaFold offers a higher yield at the same caliper as most other coated paperboard in its class.

According to third-party testing conducted by Applied Paper Technology, KlaFold has between a 15 percent to 25 percent yield advantage and a significant strength-per-pound advantage at a lower basis weight versus most other, competitive coated paperboard grades. The tests compared 13.4 pt, 15.6 pt and 16.9 pt KlaFold to several major competitive brands. In all cases, KlaFold had a clear advantage — with more cartons per ton of paper and greater stiffness per pound. Tests comparing smoothness, brightness and stiffness characteristics of KlaFold versus other paperboards also were conducted, and KlaFold matched or outperformed the competitors across the board.

KlaFold is compliant with ISEGA and the U.S. Food & Drug Administration for direct food contact, and offers sustainability benefits of source reduction and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain-of-custody certification.

A KlaFold portfolio highlighting samples and more information is available from Sean McDonald at 804-201-2590 or spm6@meadwestvaco.com.

ADI/PDM Trade Group introduces a 12-position specialty gluer with counter-ejector. The bottom sheets will be fed from a feed table at the front of the machine into the gluing transfer section. When the sheet enters the transfer section, glue will be applied to the specified locations for the diecut circle pads to be applied. The sheet will then enter the 12-position, motorized circle pad applicator. The 12 circle pads will be applied simultaneously.

After the circle pads are applied, the sheet will proceed through a compression section to the stacker. The programmable logic controlled (PLC) stacker will automatically stack the completed product and eject them in bundles of 10, 15, 20, etc., without interrupting production. The rate of production is approximately 1,000 completed product pieces per hour.

Flexo Concepts has added MultiMedia to its family of MicroClean™ plastic media products. Developed for use in the company's MicroClean Anilox Cleaning System, MultiMedia is a pre-mixed combination of two existing media types: LaserMedia and FineMedia. LaserMedia is typically used for cleaning lower line screen ceramic anilox rolls, while FineMedia is usually selected for higher line screens.

Previously, printers cleaning a wide range of line screens would often combine the two media types by hand on an as-needed basis. By doing so, they were blending the large particles of LaserMedia with the smaller FineMedia particles to create a mix that was ideally suited for cleaning both high and low line screens. MultiMedia will save printers both time and money by eliminating the need to mix the two media types by hand, and by consolidating their inventory to just one media type.

Printers using MultiMedia should also experience longer media life than when using just FineMedia, because MultiMedia has a higher content of larger particles. The larger particles take longer to break down and are consumed more slowly, enabling printers to clean more anilox rolls per drum of product.

Also in the MicroClean media line are UltraMedia, a long-lasting formulation for cleaning chrome and ceramic surfaces, and PartsMedia, for use with the MicroClean Parts Cleaning Systems. Like all media types, MultiMedia will qualify for the company's exclusive Quik-Ship program, which guarantees shipment of media within 24 hours of ordering. Media orders are presently filled at the company's Plymouth, Mass., headquarters and shipped from various warehouse locations in the U.S.
