Box Volumes Fall

On an average week basis, industry shipments of corrugated products for April fell 2.5 percent, the Fibre Box Association (FBA) reports. Last month had one more shipping day (20) than April 2006. On an actual basis shipments rose 2.6 percent. Year to date, shipments are down 2.1 percent on an average week basis and down 0.9 percent on an actual basis. Last month’s containerboard consumption was 2.6 percent higher than April 2006 but year to date consumption was down 0.9 percent. Containerboard inventories at box plants slipped 1.7 percent between the end of March and the end of April, while weeks of supply tumbled 8.3 percent in the same period.
